Women, free yourself, you have rights!
Festival Ixchel in the historic center of Guatemala There will be an artistic revolution this month in the Historic Center of Guatemala City, where women of many generations will perform their works of theater, music, dance, photography, cinema and poetry, to proclaim, with one voice, their human rights. Under the theme "Women, free yourself, you have rights," the Festival Ixchel organized by the art group Na'ik Madera, a partner of Fondo Centroamericano de Mujeres (FCAM), brings together creators eager to manifest through their distict branches of art, from varying realities. Each work is related to the theme of the event, which includes the communication and exchange between artists and emerging groups, with a joined intentional proposal, which is supported by FCAM, Onumujeres, as well as other organizations advocating women’s human rights.
The opening ceremony will be held at Espacio Bakabs (5th Avenida 11 Calle Zona 1, Guatemala City), beginning at 6pm with "Suenos Aprendidos” an act by Audrey Houben, who applies the technique of Bondage, used by the military to torture prisoners of war. In addition to the welcoming remarks and presentation of the organizing team, a string quartet will perform "La Travesura”, by composer Pamela Flores, who will also pay tribute to women artists from different disciplines. We will close with an act of liberation, continuing the theme of the festival. To view the complete program, visit http://www.artenaik.org/p/programacion-2011.html or Facebook del FCAM
